SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN AFRICA

SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN   AFRICA

Science is the study of nature while technology is the application of science. This implies science is there to be used to acquire technology. So, certainly we have to use what we have to get what we want as a means of application. Nevertheless, this has not been the case in Africa as there exist several mineral resources but we the Africans have failed to produce the technology out of it ourselves. All this is caused by the aspect of hoping and waiting which is not the way of doing things.
The Africans have failed to work under the power of meditation and concentration, which is tremendously important to the life of science. A scientist needs to work very hard in order to achieve his or her set goals, “For a man determines his destiny designed by God.” The scientific mind is that which must always be curious and anxious. That is, always wanting to know more. The scientific mind does not have to be self-satisfied.
If you ask for the opinion of so many persons, it will be noticed that accusing fingers are pointing at the low level of educational standard as the major cause of low technological development. The question is if we have seen that as a      problem, what then have we done about that? It should be noted that before the introduction of the formal education,   development had started; hence we have to start from some initial point rather than complaining and waiting.
In order for science and technology to excel in Africa, we should start by equipping our science and research laboratory. Powerful discovery conferences should be organized so as to bring out the talent in some people. As some conceive, some set objectives and some attain these objectives. Some are called initiators, others are called facilitators while others are called perfectionists. Some brains need to be triggered to set to work. Some have conceptions but nowhere to expose them. Man in his nature must know himself in order to achieve as some are born great, some achieve greatness while greatness is trust upon some. Let us realize with God all things are possible and also that the future or the success of the continent lies on our level of scientific and technological development.

It is high time we put away the shackle of inferiority complex entrusted upon ourselves by ourselves. Think big and become big rather than foreshadowing the negative side of life that will prevent you from achieving greatness. Believe in yourself, just know that you can make it or at least someone else can make it through you, put together your conceptual materials and try to set an objective. Observe the possibility of attaining the set objective. If complex to you, contact others whom you think you can learn from them and vice versa. Always learn to be as curious as possible. If all these are taken into consideration and as a concept of urgency, then I suppose Africa will be looking forward to better tomorrow as the best is yet to come.
